A week with Puccini and italianme

Come and discover this magical week with Puccini and Italian me!

La bohème is an opera of four acts, composed by Giacomo Puccini with an Italian libretto by Luigi Illica and Giuseppe Giacosa. La bohème is based on the “Scenes de la vie de bohème” by Henri Murger.

The birth of “La Bohème” was quite stormy, at the time the composer and librettist Ruggero Leoncavallo was in fact working on a musical adaptation of the same work. When Puccini heard about this, he continued with his work being aware of what this meant. The opera premiered took place in Turin on February the 1st of 1896 at the Teatro Regio,  and was a success. On the contrary, the opera by Leoncavallo, was premiered for the first time in 1897 and quickly fell into oblivion.

La bohème talks about the carefree existence of some young bohemian artists in Paris in 1830. It has become part of the standard Italian opera repertory and is one of the most frequently performed operas worldwide.
